The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, has reiterated his commitment to a comprehensive anti-graft campaign that will target all forms of economic and financial crimes, sparing no one involved. In a statement released by EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale in Abuja, Olukoyede emphasized the agency’s determination to root out corruption at all levels.
Speaking at an Anti-Corruption Concert in Abuja aimed at raising awareness about internet crimes, Olukoyede reassured the public of the EFCC’s unwavering resolve to combat corrupt practices. He emphasized that no individual, regardless of their status or background, would be shielded from facing the consequences of their actions. The EFCC Chairman highlighted the recent prosecution of two former governors as evidence of the agency’s commitment to tackling all forms of financial wrongdoing.
While acknowledging the prevalence of internet fraud among the youth, Olukoyede cautioned against engaging in such criminal activities. He stressed the severe repercussions of being convicted of internet-related offenses, warning that ex-convicts face significant career limitations and social stigma. Olukoyede urged young people to prioritize their future and avoid the lure of quick gains through illegal means.
In line with its efforts to engage and empower the youth, the EFCC is planning to establish a Cyber Crime Research Centre at its upcoming New Academy. This initiative aims to involve young people in research projects related to cybercrime and steer their energies towards productive endeavors. Olukoyede encouraged youths to embrace hard work and integrity, emphasizing the importance of combating corruption collectively as a society.
Supporting the EFCC’s anti-corruption campaign, Minister of State for Youth Development Ayodele Olawande called on young people nationwide to join forces in fighting economic and financial crimes. He underscored the need for collective action to safeguard Nigeria’s future and prevent corrupt individuals from derailing progress. Olawande emphasized the crucial role that every individual has to play in upholding integrity and combating corruption within society.
The collaborative efforts of the EFCC, government officials, and the youth demonstrate a shared commitment to promoting transparency, accountability, and ethical conduct. By engaging in dialogue, awareness campaigns, and research initiatives, stakeholders are working towards a future where corruption has no place in Nigeria. Together, they aim to change the narrative and build a society based on principles of integrity, diligence, and collective responsibility.
