The former Lagos State governor, Babatunde Raji Fashola, recently spoke out about the amount he receives as a monthly pension from the state government. In an interview on Arise TV, Fashola revealed that he only receives N577,000 as a monthly pension, contrary to speculations and rumors that he is receiving billions from the federal government.
In the interview, Fashola made it clear that despite the stories suggesting he was receiving billions of naira as part of his pension benefits from the state government, he only gets N577,000 monthly. He also denied any federal benefits, stating, “The benefit I get is I think N577,000 monthly pension from Lagos State. That is all I get and in spite of all the stories that we got several billions, I have come out to deny that repeatedly. Well I don’t know how long it will last but I still get it every month. That is all I get and there is no federal benefits at all.”
Following this revelation, several Nigerians took to social media platforms to react to the news. On Twitter, user @ChrisEjiofor7 tweeted, “When they tell you the truth, you will know,” while @EAsije questioned, “How much do retired civil servants in Lagos State collect as pensions?”
This is not the first time Fashola has made headlines. In a previous report by Legit.ng, he criticized the popular phrase, “May Nigeria not happen to me,” calling for less negative criticism about the country.
Additionally, Fashola once revealed that he holds critical positions under the new government headed by President Bola Tinubu. He expressed that President Tinubu’s administration is breeding a new generation of leaders, and he does not require a formal title to play his role as a citizen of Nigeria.
Furthermore, Fashola has also faced allegations. Regarding drafting a judgment for the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal, he denied such claims and even wrote a petition to the inspector-general of police, Olukayode Egbetokun, regarding the matter.
In summary, Fashola’s recent revelation about his monthly pension has sparked discussions online, providing clarity on the actual amount he receives from the Lagos state government. His statement has prompted public reactions and further contributed to his profile as a prominent Nigerian politician.
