The Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has refuted claims that President Bola Tinubu has endorsed Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State as his preferred candidate for the upcoming Governorship election on November 16th. A statement released by Babatunde Alao, the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Minister, in Abuja on Wednesday, debunked the rumored appointment of the minister as the leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State. The report, which surfaced on social media by Blueprint Newspaper, alleging Tinubu’s appointment of Tunji-Ojo as the political leader in Ondo State, was dismissed as baseless and fictitious.

“Tunji-Ojo completely distances himself from the purported appointment as it lacks any truth,” stated Mr. Alao. He also clarified that there was no meeting held in Abuja between the minister and APC chairmen and leaders from the 18 local government areas of Ondo State, as indicated in the article. With the party’s governorship primary election closing in, the minister advised aspiring candidates to demonstrate love and sportsmanship.

Emphasizing President Tinubu’s commitment to unity and peace as a democrat and the leader of the party, Alao highlighted that the President would not engage in actions that undermine these principles. He urged the public to disregard the misinformation circulating in the viral news article and rely on credible sources for accurate information.

As the father of the nation and party, President Tinubu’s primary interest is to promote unity and peace among party members. Therefore, any means that may disrupt this harmony would not be condoned by him. The public is encouraged to steer clear of false information and depend on reliable sources for authentic news.

In conclusion, the minister’s spokesperson reiterated the importance of disregarding false reports and trusting only verified sources for accurate information. The National News Agency (NAN) reported on this issue, emphasizing the significance of upholding the truth and avoiding the spread of misinformation. It is essential for the public to remain vigilant and discerning when consuming news and to always verify the authenticity of the sources they rely on.
