The Ondo state House of Assembly has announced plans to screen the deputy governor nominee for Ondo state, Olayide Owolabi Adelami, on Thursday, January 25. The announcement was made by Olatuji Oshati, Chairman of the House Committee on Information, in a statement issued to newsmen on Wednesday.
The members of the Assembly maintained that Governor Aiyedatiwa’s action in nominating Adelami is in line with the constitution. Adelami, a former deputy clerk of the National Assembly, was nominated by Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa to be his deputy, and he is expected to appear before the Assembly for screening on the specified date.
The name of the Deputy Governor nominee was received from the governor on Wednesday by the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Olamide Oladiji, on behalf of the House. According to the statement by Oshati, the governor’s action is in line with Section 191(3)b&c of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended.
Adelami hails from Owo, the hometown of the late Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, and his nomination has generated significant interest in the state. This move comes shortly after Governor Aiyedatiwa had announced the dissolution of the state executive council, instructing the commissioners to hand over the office property immediately.
In addition, there have been reports of alleged discrepancies in the late Akeredolu’s management, with a former aide, Doyin Odebowale, accusing the late governor’s wife of having undue influence in his matters.
Adelami’s nomination and upcoming screening symbolize a significant political development in Ondo state, and it has been received with keen interest both within the state and beyond. The outcome of the screening process will have far-reaching ramifications and is eagerly awaited by political observers and the general public alike.
