As the 2023 governorship election approaches in Ondo State, the support for Mr. Wale Akinterinwa’s governorship ambition has gained momentum from various quarters, including a National Assembly member and some youth of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Festus Adefiranye, who represents Ile Oluji/ Okeigbo/ Odigbo federal constituency in the National Assembly, along with the APC youth, have thrown their weight behind Akinterinwa’s governorship ambition. They emphasized the endorsement of Akinterinwa after carefully screening all the party’s aspirants in the race for the ticket, concluding that he remains the most suitable candidate for the position due to his extensive experience and wide-ranging exposure compared to other contenders for the gubernatorial seat.
During a meeting of some APC youth leaders in the Ile-Oluji/Okeigbo Local government area, Adefiranye spoke in favor of Akinterinwa’s candidacy, describing him as a grassroots mobilizer deeply entrenched in the politics of the state with the necessary experience to govern if elected as governor. He urged the party leadership in the state to work in unity and togetherness and advised against engaging in rancorous behavior, emphasizing that the party’s success will come through collaboration and support for all candidates.
Adefiranye also assured the APC youth leaders that he would continue to defend the interests of the party, both economically and politically. The APC youth leaders reciprocated by passing a vote of confidence on Mr. Adefiranye as their federal constituency lawmaker.
Akinterinwa, a prominent aspirant for the APC ticket in the upcoming governorship election, has garnered significant support from various quarters, including Adefiranye and the APC youth.
It is worth noting that Adefiranye, along with other lawmakers, had previously petitioned President Bola Tinubu over the state of affairs of the APC in the state. In their letter to Tinubu, they urged the leadership of the party not to prioritize incompetence over merit in the party’s primary. This action demonstrates Adefiranye’s commitment to upholding the principles and integrity of the party.
The APC has scheduled its primary election for April to select its candidate for the governorship election, with the election itself slated for November 16th by INEC.
In conclusion, the growing support for Wale Akinterinwa’s governorship ambition from influential figures such as Festus Adefiranye and the APC youth signifies a significant endorsement of his candidacy. With the primary election on the horizon, it is evident that Akinterinwa has garnered substantial support and is positioning himself as a formidable contender for the APC ticket in the upcoming governorship election in Ondo State.
