The Olubadan Advisory Council has made a decision to put further discussion on the suspension of the Onido of Ido, Oba Murtala Gbolagade Babalola on hold. Oba Babalola was suspended by Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo state over an alleged involvement in illegal mining in his locality. This development has sparked calls for his removal by some stakeholders in the area.
The concerned stakeholders in the locality have called for the re-installation of Chief Benjamin Ademola Ishola Orobiyi II. Chief Isola was dethroned by the late governor of the state, Chief Isiaq Abiola Ajimobi, for allowing his subjects to wear branded Ankara during his 10th coronation anniversary. However, he has since written a letter of apology to Governor Makinde and the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Dr. Lekan Balogun.
The Olubadan Advisory Council, led by Oba Balogun, decided in a meeting on Monday to put further discussion on the matter on hold due to its sensitive nature. In a press statement made available to journalists in Ibadan by Oladele Ogunsola, the Personal Assistant (Media), the Olubadan was quoted as saying that the matter should be left as it is. The monarch had previously declared that there is no vacancy regarding the Onido Stool. At the Advisory Council meeting, Chief Lateef Alade, the Personal Assistant on Chieftaincy Matters to the Olubadan, further clarified this statement.
The aide to the Olubadan confirmed the receipt of the apology letter written by Chief Benjamin Ademola Isola, seeking his pardon and reinstatement as the Onido. This move is said to be in response to the current challenges facing the current Onido. The Olubadan’s decision was deemed the best course of action in the current circumstances.
According to the Personal Assistant, the situation in Ido is complex as the current Onido is the third to hold the position, and all three are still alive. One of the previous Onidos is currently in court over the same stool. This complexity is why caution is needed in handling the matter, and the decision made by the Olubadan is commendable.
In light of these developments, the Nigerian Tribune reported on the ongoing situation in Ido and the decisions made by the Olubadan Advisory Council. The matter remains sensitive and requires careful consideration, and the stakeholders involved are actively working towards a resolution that serves the best interests of the community.
