The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) faction recently made headlines after announcing the suspension of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano. The suspension came as a result of his failure to appear before a disciplinary committee to address allegations of anti-party activities.

Governor Yusuf was accused of attending an illegal convention organized by a factional group led by former presidential candidate Robiu Kwankwaso in Abuja. Despite being invited to provide an explanation and clarification for his actions, Governor Yusuf failed to make himself available, prompting the party to take disciplinary action against him.

Comrade Oginni Olaposi Sunday, the national secretary of the NNPP, officially announced the six-month suspension of Governor Yusuf at the NNPP headquarters in Abuja. Sunday explained that the governor’s suspension was a result of his failure to uphold the party’s constitution and address the allegations brought against him.

According to reports, Governor Yusuf was expected to appear before the disciplinary committee to explain why he participated in an illegal convention after being elected on the NNPP’s platform. The convention, organized by the factional group, took place at the Class Event Centre in Wuse, Abuja, on April 6th, 2024.

Despite media involvement to inform the public about the unfolding events at the party’s national secretariat, Governor Yusuf failed to provide a valid reason for his absence before the disciplinary committee. As a result, the suspension was handed down to him by the committee, chaired by Barrister Monday Mawah.

The NNPP’s Board of Trustees endorsed Governor Yusuf’s suspension, which was also supported by the National Working Committee of the party. In a statement released by the party, it was made clear that the suspension would be in effect for six months starting immediately.

The decision to suspend Governor Yusuf was not taken lightly, as it was approved by the highest governing bodies of the NNPP. The party emphasized the importance of upholding party rules and regulations, especially when it comes to elected officials representing the party.

In conclusion, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s suspension from the NNPP serves as a reminder to all party members to adhere to the party’s principles and values. The disciplinary action taken against him highlights the party’s commitment to maintaining discipline and integrity within its ranks.
