The Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Political Commission, has strongly criticized the Labour Party, LP, National Chairman, Julius Abure, labeling him as a “drowning wannabe politrickster” who has lost the confidence of most critical stakeholders in the party. The NLC reiterated that the Labour Party belongs to the NLC and accused Abure of violating a court order regarding the ownership of the party.
In a statement signed by Comrade Titus Amba, Chairperson of the NLC Political Commission, and Comrade Chris Uyot, Secretary of the NLC Political Commission, it was emphasized that Abure’s actions have disregarded a court judgment and an INEC supervised terms of settlement that called for an all-inclusive National Convention of the Labour Party.
The statement highlighted the historical and legal basis for the NLC’s claim as the institutional trustees of the Labour Party, citing a 2018 court judgment that affirmed the NLC’s ownership of the party. The NLC called for Abure’s resignation in light of his disregard for court rulings and agreements, as well as his lack of respect for the elders in the labour movement.
Despite Abure’s attempts to deflect from the issue at hand, the NLC asserted its commitment to recovering and repositioning the Labour Party as a political entity for sincere and patriotic politicians who aim to make a positive impact on the lives of ordinary Nigerians. The statement emphasized that the NLC and other stakeholders will not be deterred by Abure’s actions and will continue to pursue the party’s recovery with the full force of the law behind them.
The NLC condemned Abure’s behavior as that of a desperate individual grasping at straws to maintain control, despite losing the confidence of key stakeholders within the party. The statement concluded with a firm declaration that Nigerian workers will reclaim what is rightfully theirs and ensure that the Labour Party serves its intended purpose as a platform for genuine political change in the country.
Overall, the NLC’s statement serves as a strong rebuke of Julius Abure’s actions and underscores the organization’s determination to uphold the rule of law and protect the interests of Nigerian workers within the Labour Party.
