The Nigerian Meteorological Agency, NiMet, has issued a weather forecast predicting sunny and thundery conditions across the country from Wednesday to Thursday. According to NiMet’s outlook released in Abuja, the northern region can expect a sunny atmosphere during this period.
In the North Central cities, NiMet anticipates a sunny atmosphere with patches of clouds, along with isolated thunderstorms in parts of the Federal Capital Territory, Niger, Kwara, Kogi, and Benue states later in the day. Similarly, the inland of the South and the coastal areas are likely to experience cloudy skies with intervals of sunshine, with morning isolated thunderstorms expected over parts of Cross River, Akwa Ibom, and Bayelsa States.
Moving on to Thursday, the forecast indicates sunny skies over the northern region, with the possibility of isolated thunderstorms specifically over Kebbi State in the afternoon. In the North Central cities, a mix of sunny atmosphere and cloudy patches is expected, with isolated thunderstorms likely over parts of the Federal Capital Territory, Niger, Kwara, Nasarawa, and Benue states later in the day. The Southern regions are anticipated to have a cloudy atmosphere with intervals of sunshine, with morning thunderstorms expected over parts of Bayelsa and Rivers States.
The forecast for Friday predicts a continuation of sunny conditions in the northern region, with isolated thunderstorms expected over parts of Taraba and Kebbi States during the afternoon and evening. In the North Central cities, cloud patches with sunshine intervals are expected, along with chances of thunderstorms over parts of the Federal Capital Territory, Plateau, and Kogi States in the afternoon and evening. The Southern regions are likely to experience a mix of cloudy atmosphere and intervals of sunshine, with morning thunderstorms expected over parts of Bayelsa and Rivers States.
NiMet advises the public to take precautionary measures as strong winds may precede rainfall in areas where thunderstorms are likely to occur. Additionally, staying hydrated is recommended, especially in areas where temperature values remain high, particularly in the North. Those with respiratory issues should be cautious of the weather conditions, while children and the elderly should wear appropriate clothing at night.
