The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecasted sunshine and haziness from Monday to Wednesday across the country. In the weather outlook released on Sunday in Abuja, NiMet predicted a sunny and hazy atmosphere on Monday over the northern region. The forecast also included sunny skies with patches of clouds expected over the North Central cities, with isolated thunderstorms possible over parts of Kogi and Benue later in the day.
Moving further, NiMet anticipated cloudy conditions with intervals of sunshine over inland areas of the South and coastal parts, with chances of thunderstorms over parts of Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, and Bayelsa during the morning period. Thunderstorms were also expected later in the day over parts of Ogun, Ondo, Abia, Delta, Rivers, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, and Lagos states.
On Tuesday, NiMet predicted sunny and hazy skies over the northern region and patches of clouds in a hazy atmosphere over the North Central cities. Cloudy atmosphere with spells of sunshine were expected over inland states and coastal areas of the South, with morning thunderstorms possible over parts of Edo, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, and Lagos states. Furthermore, thunderstorms were envisaged over parts of Abia, Imo, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, Ogun, Ondo, Edo, Cross River, Delta, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, and Lagos states during the afternoon and evening periods.
For Wednesday, NiMet forecasted a sunny and hazy atmosphere over the northern region and patches of clouds in a hazy atmosphere over the North Central cities. Cloudy conditions with intervals of sunshine were anticipated over the inland states and coastal areas of the South during the morning period, with thunderstorms expected later in the day over parts of Edo, Ogun, Rivers, Bayelsa, and Delta States during the afternoon and evening periods.
The agency urged the public to take adequate precautions as strong winds might precede the rains in areas where thunderstorms were likely to occur. It also advised staying hydrated, especially in the North where temperature values are still high. People with respiratory issues were cautioned to be mindful of the weather conditions, while children and the elderly were advised to wear warm clothing at night.
Airline operators were also advised to get updated weather reports and forecasts from NiMet for effective planning in their operations. Overall, the weather forecast from NiMet provided valuable insights into expected weather patterns across Nigeria from Monday to Wednesday.
