The Nigerian Army troops recently cleared the IPOB/ESN hideout at Ihiteukwa Community in Orsu Local Government Area of Imo State, neutralizing one IPOB/ESN terrorist after an intense firefight on Saturday. This successful operation was confirmed by the Director of Army Public Relations, Maj.-Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu, in a statement released in Abuja.

During the operation, the troops conducted a thorough search of the hideout, where they discovered three Improvised Explosive Devices (IED), one Toyota Highlander SUV, and one Hilux vehicle. The criminals were overpowered, and the troops also recovered eight rounds of 7.62mm (Special) ammunition, six rounds of 7.62mm (NATO) ammunition, and a locally fabricated single-barrel gun. Additionally, a pair of proscribed Biafran uniform, a solar panel, a CCTV camera, 10 mobile phones, batteries, a bundle of proscribed Biafran Currency, three solar street lights, three jungle hats, pairs of black boots, and assorted charms were among the items recovered from the hideout.

In another encounter, the troops engaged IPOB/ESN terrorists at their crossing point in Akawa Nneato area of Umunneochi Local Government Area of Abia. This resulted in the terrorists fleeing into nearby bushes in disarray after a firefight. Further exploration of the area led to the recovery of one AK-47 Rifle loaded with 19 rounds of 7.62mm (Special) ammunition, two empty magazines, and one FN Rifle loaded with four rounds of 7.62mm (NATO) ammunition.

Meanwhile, troops operating in the Kawara general area of Birnin Gwari Forest in Kaduna State successfully cleared and destroyed a series of terrorists’ camps in the area. The operation also yielded the recovery of three motorbikes, one PKT Gun link containing 246 rounds of 7.62mm by 39mm ammunition, one woodland camouflage, a pair of Desert boots, three magazine carriers, and one Boafeng Radio.

The Nigerian Army remains steadfast in its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of citizens. These efforts are part of the ongoing mission to sanitize affected regions and provide a secure environment for all Nigerians.

It is crucial to acknowledge the bravery and dedication of the Nigerian Army troops in carrying out these operations successfully. Their relentless pursuit of peace and stability in the face of adversity is commendable and deserves recognition. Through their continued efforts, the Nigerian Army exemplifies the values of courage, service, and sacrifice in their mission to protect and defend the nation.
