The Nigerian Government has successfully secured the release of over 1,000 people who were recently kidnapped in the northern part of the country, as announced by the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu. This achievement comes following the rescue of 23 individuals who were abducted in September at the Federal University Gusau in Zamfara State, North-west Nigeria.

Security sources revealed that the kidnapped students and staff of the university were rescued by security agents near Kuncin Dutse, a village in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara. The operation was coordinated by Adamu Laka, a major general and the Coordinator of the National Counter-terrorism Centre.

Mr Ribadu expressed his satisfaction with the successful rescue mission, stating, “This is yet again a success story in our effort to free all those being unlawfully held in captivity. We have so far released over a thousand such victims without noise and with complete respect to their privacy and safety.” The group of 23 individuals rescued included 15 students and eight university workers, along with a woman who was abducted in Funtua, Katsina State.

In a previous operation, nine female students were released after spending 178 days in captivity. Mr Ribadu commended the released victims and their families on their safe return and reassured them that they were the last batch of victims from the recent mass abduction that the government successfully rescued. He encouraged the victims to view their experience as a trial that would strengthen them rather than weaken their resolve for the future.

During the reunion of the rescued victims with their loved ones in Abuja, Mr Ribadu expressed gratitude to all those involved in the rescue operation. He particularly acknowledged the efforts of security and enforcement agencies for their tireless work and sacrifices. He also appreciated the leadership and support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, without whom these rescues would not have been possible.

Looking ahead, Mr Ribadu emphasized the government’s commitment to enhancing law enforcement and security measures to prevent future abductions and to bolster physical security in vulnerable communities. He highlighted the need to continue strengthening the proactive measures taken by the government to ensure the safety and security of all citizens.

The successful rescue mission serves as a testament to the government’s dedication to the protection and well-being of its people. By prioritizing the safety and security of its citizens, the Nigerian Government is taking proactive steps to address the growing threat of kidnappings and ensure the peaceful coexistence of all individuals within the country.
