Allamin Foundation for Peace and Development, a non-governmental organisation, is advocating for justice for deradicalised Boko Haram women who are facing stigmatization from some residents in Borno State. The foundation recently held a policy workshop in Maiduguri to address the challenges faced by survivors, victims, and deradicalised women from the insurgency.

During the workshop, Dr. Hamsatu Allamin, the Executive Secretary of the foundation, highlighted the increase in stigmatization against deradicalised women in the state. She emphasized that this stigma is affecting the emotional well-being and mental health of these individuals. Many of them face rejection and maltreatment from their families, friends, and community members, leading to a negative self-image.

Dr. Allamin stressed that stigma is a significant barrier to the reintegration of deradicalised women and children. The misinformation about their experiences contributes to this stigma. The foundation is working with various stakeholders, including government agencies like the Army, police, and civil defense, to create awareness and promote peace in Borno State. They are collaborating with the Ministry of Women’s Affairs and the Ministry of Justice to ensure transitional justice for these individuals who have been victimized.

The foundation supports different categories of victims and survivors, including the Njire Dole Network for mothers of disappeared victims, former detainees, and others affected by the insurgency. Dr. Allamin called on the media to raise awareness about the harmful effects of stigmatization and the role they can play in disseminating accurate information.

The Shehu of Borno, HRH Abubakar Ibn Umar Garba Al-amin Elkanemi, recognized the efforts of traditional leaders in promoting reconciliation and peace in the society. He emphasized the need for the constitution to acknowledge their role in these efforts. The Shehu, represented by the district head of Mafa, pledged continued support for Allamin Foundation’s peace-building initiatives in the state.

In conclusion, Allamin Foundation for Peace and Development is dedicated to advocating for justice and promoting peace for deradicalised women and victims of the Boko Haram insurgency. Through workshops, collaborations with stakeholders, and awareness campaigns, the foundation aims to eliminate stigma and support the reintegration of these individuals back into society. The support from traditional leaders and other key stakeholders is crucial in achieving lasting peace and security in Borno State.
