Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, have made significant strides in combating drug trafficking in Nigeria. In recent operations in Lagos, Edo, and Ondo states, the agency seized a total of 44,948.1 kilograms of illicit drugs, equivalent to 44.9 tonnes. This marks a major victory in the fight against drug trafficking in the country.

According to Femi Babafemi, the NDLEA spokesman, the operations led to the arrest of eight suspects and the seizure of 11 vehicles from suspected drug barons. In Edo state, 14,310.8625kg of marijuana grown on 5.7 hectares of farms was destroyed in the Ohosu-Ugbogui forest, Ovia South West Local Government Area. Additionally, 7,687.8kg of the substance was destroyed in a warehouse in the Ala forest near Akure in Ondo state.

In another operation, NDLEA operatives evacuated 670kg of cannabis and arrested five suspects, including a 67-year-old individual. The agency also uncovered and destroyed over 6,500kg of marijuana grown on a 2.6-hectare farm in Uzebba-Avbiosi forest, leading to the arrest of three suspects.

Furthermore, a joint operation with the military resulted in the burning down of 5,000kg of the substance in a warehouse in Okpuje forest, Owan West LGA. In Lagos, a well-coordinated operation led to the seizure of 10,534 kilograms of Ghanaian Loud in the Ajah area of the state. The agency also seized 11 vehicles from the drug cartel involved in the trafficking of this strain of cannabis.

Additionally, in another raid in the Ago Palace way area of Lagos, a suspect named Miracle Obi was apprehended with a significant quantity of illicit drugs, including pentazocine injection, tramadol, codeine syrup, and Diazepam injection. Another suspect, Kareem Mustapha, was arrested along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway with a substantial amount of tramadol and pentazocine injection pills.

These operations highlight the dedication and effectiveness of the NDLEA in combating drug trafficking and reducing the availability of illicit substances in Nigeria. The agency’s efforts have led to the disruption of drug trafficking networks and the apprehension of individuals involved in this illegal trade. The NDLEA continues to work tirelessly to safeguard communities and protect the youth from the harmful effects of drug abuse and trafficking.
