The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) made significant arrests recently, demonstrating their commitment to combating drug trafficking and abuse. One of the notable cases involved the apprehension of a 67-year-old grandfather in possession of 57kg of Indian hemp in Magbon, Ogun. Additionally, the suspect was found with 2,700 pills of tramadol and 231 bottles of Codeine syrup.

Further operations conducted by NDLEA operatives led to the discovery of an illicit drug joint in Benin, where a 24-year-old sales girl was arrested, and assorted illicit drugs were confiscated. Subsequently, the owner of the joint, a 36-year-old vigilance group commander, was apprehended in a follow-up operation.

In another operation, NDLEA operatives seized 179kg of Indian hemp in Badagry, Lagos State, while a 25-year-old woman was arrested in Bagga, Borno, for possession of cocaine and heroin. Additionally, in Meri and Babban Layi areas of Maiduguri, a 26-year-old and a 22-year-old male suspect were nabbed with quantities of cocaine and heroin.

The agency also intercepted about 44,820 pills of illicit psychotropic drugs destined for Zamfara in Kebbi. Moreover, a 35-year-old farmer growing tomatoes and Indian hemp was arrested on his farm in Birnin Yero, Igabi Local Government Area, Kaduna State.

In a separate incident, two suspects were apprehended in a commercial bus traveling from Lagos to Kano with 99 blocks of Indian hemp weighing 37kg. The interception took place on the Kwali-Gwagwalada Expressway in the FCT. Furthermore, in the Upper Iweka area of Onitsha, Anambra, a suspect was caught with 483 bottles of codeine-based cough syrup concealed in two 50-litre kegs. A subsequent operation led to the arrest of the actual owner of the syrup.

These arrests underscore the relentless efforts of NDLEA in curbing drug trafficking and abuse across various states in Nigeria. The agency’s vigilance and dedication to enforcing drug control laws contribute significantly to safeguarding communities and combating the menace of drug-related crimes.

As part of its mandate, NDLEA continues to collaborate with relevant stakeholders to enhance drug control measures and promote public health and safety. The agency’s commitment to eradicating drug trafficking and abuse remains unwavering, emphasizing the importance of collective action in addressing the challenges posed by illicit drugs.

In conclusion, the recent arrests and seizures by NDLEA highlight the need for continued vigilance and concerted efforts to combat drug trafficking and abuse. By staying proactive and engaging in collaborative initiatives, stakeholders can work together to create a drug-free society and ensure the well-being of all citizens.
