The Nigerian Navy, Forward Operation Base, Ibaka, in Akwa Ibom, made a significant arrest by apprehending two suspects and confiscating their wooden boat loaded with 5,100 litres of petrol. The Commanding Officer of the base, Uche Aneke, handed over the suspects, the boat, and the petrol to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Ibaka on Sunday. The arrest was made by a patrol team of the Navy on February 22 after receiving information about suspected smuggling activities in the area.
Captain Uche Aneke disclosed that patrolling Naval gunboats were deployed to intercept the wooden boat, where the two suspected smugglers and 5,100 litres of petrol were found concealed under bags of yams, cartons of drinks, other beverages, and several cartons of floor tiles, all covered with tarpaulin. He issued a stern warning to those involved in illegal activities to desist from such actions or be prepared to face the consequences of the law.
Furthermore, Mr. Aneke cautioned criminals to stay away from Nigeria’s territorial waters, emphasizing that security agencies would not tolerate any unlawful activities in the country’s coastal regions. The Head of NSCDC’s anti-vandalism unit in Akwa Ibom, Micheal Asibor, who received the suspects and exhibits, assured of a thorough prosecution of the incident to uphold justice.
