The 7 Division chapter of the Nigerian Army Officers Wives Association (NAOWA) at Maimalari Cantonment in Maiduguri, Borno state capital took a noble initiative to support 40 families of soldiers who lost their lives in the fight against Boko Haram and ISWAP in the North East region. This compassionate gesture was carried out by the Chairperson of NAOWA, Hajiya Aisha Haruna, who believed it was essential to bring smiles to the faces of the grieving families, especially as the nation faces food and economic crises. The distribution of food items to these families coincided with the celebration of International Women’s Day.
Each of the 40 widows received a bag of 25kg rice, a carton of spaghetti, and a 5-liter cooking oil as a token of support from NAOWA. Hajiya Aisha Haruna emphasized that this act of kindness was not only to alleviate the hardship faced by the families but also to honor the sacrifices made by their husbands for the peace and security of the nation. The event was part of the activities planned for International Women’s Day, a day dedicated to acknowledging and celebrating the achievements and contributions of women globally.
In her address, Hajiya Aisha Haruna highlighted the significance of International Women’s Day in promoting gender equality and empowering women to participate fully in all spheres of society.
