The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) recently took action against two unregistered water-packaging companies in Ota, Ogun State. The companies were found to be operating without NAFDAC approval, leading to their facilities being sealed by NAFDAC officials.
Mr. Philip Benu, the State Coordinator for NAFDAC in Ogun 2 Office, Ota, conducted the raid and enforcement based on routine inspections carried out by regulatory officers in the area. He explained that the two companies failed to meet the necessary requirements for registration with NAFDAC, prompting the enforcement action.
During the initial inspection, it was discovered that the companies were operating without approval and did not have anyone present for questioning. Despite being invited to the NAFDAC office for scrutiny and having their facilities sealed, the companies removed the seals and continued production of unregistered water products with fake NAFDAC registration numbers.
Benu emphasized the importance of meeting NAFDAC’s standards for registration, including having proper facilities and passing laboratory tests for approval. He warned against illegal production in unhygienic environments and stressed the need for routine monitoring of producers to ensure compliance with regulations.
The two companies were immediately stopped from producing fake products and their production machines were confiscated and taken to the NAFDAC office in Ota. Benu also reiterated that the enforcement against illegal producers would continue and urged them to register with NAFDAC to avoid facing legal consequences.
NAFDAC remains vigilant and is conducting surveillance to catch any illegal producers operating without approval. Benu made it clear that there is no escape for those who flout NAFDAC regulations and emphasized the need for compliance with regulatory requirements.
In conclusion, NAFDAC’s crackdown on unregistered water-packaging companies in Ota serves as a warning to illegal producers to adhere to regulations and seek approval from the appropriate authorities. Compliance with NAFDAC’s standards is crucial to ensure the safety and quality of products for consumers.
