The third leg of the School Athletics Championship for MTN CHAMPS Season 2 will take place in Jos, Plateau State, from April 23 to 26. Following this leg, the Grand Final of Season 2 will be held in Calabar, Cross River State, from April 30 to May 3. The first leg of Season 2 was the MTN CHAMPS/AFN National Trials in Asaba from February 17 to 21. This event saw around 1250 registrations and was used to select the Nigerian team that excelled in Track and Field at the African Games in Accra. The second leg recently concluded in Ibadan from April 5 to 8, across two locations: the Lekan Salami Stadium and the University of Ibadan Sports Complex, with over 2600 registrations.
Registration is still ongoing for the events in Jos and Calabar, with a signed Parental Consent Form required for each participating athlete in the Cadet, Youth & Junior categories. The deadline for registration for MTN CHAMPS Jos is April 19, while that of Calabar is April 26.
MTN CHAMPS Season 2 features four age categories: Cadet (U14) and Youth (U17) exclusively for Junior and Senior Secondary schools, and the Junior (U20) and Senior (no age restrictions) categories for other teenagers and adults in schools, universities, clubs, states, national, or unattached athletes.
MoC is partnering with the Nigeria School Sport Federation (NSSF) as the Official Schools’ Partner of MTN CHAMPS to promote widespread access and participation of schools and students across all host cities. Additionally, the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) will continue as the Official Technical Partner of CHAMPS, ensuring that all races are electronically timed and results are ratified for global recognition by World Athletics.
