Dr. Richard Somiari, the Director of Lagos State DNA and Forensic Centre, provided an update during a coroner’s inquest into the death of musician Ilerioluwa Aloba, known as Mohbad. He mentioned that the results of the autopsy conducted on the deceased singer would be available within the next three to four weeks. The inquest, which began on Oct. 13, 2023, at the Ikorodu Magistrates’ Court, was initiated by the Lagos State Government following the controversies surrounding Mohbad’s untimely death on Sept. 12, 2023, at the age of 27.
Somiari reassured the Coroner, Magistrate Adedayo Shotobi, that they expected the initial autopsy results soon to authenticate the cause of Mohbad’s death. He mentioned that they were exploring various possibilities, including the involvement of poison, as the exact cause of death was not specified.
Emphasizing the security and monitoring of the samples for the autopsy, Somiari explained the procedures in place to ensure the safety and accuracy of the results. He assured the public that there was a secure facility where items were stored and monitored, especially when samples were sent abroad for further analysis.
During the inquest, Sadiq Ayobami, also known as Spendy, testified that he saw Mohbad the day before his death. He recalled attending a concert in Ikorodu with the deceased before returning to his house, and then leaving before Mohbad’s passing. Additionally, Abiodun Kolawole, an activist representing the African Women Lawyers Association, encouraged the deceased’s parents to address any concerns regarding the paternity of Mohbad’s child through the court system rather than resorting to social media.
Magistrate T. A. Shotobi adjourned the case until April 15 and instructed all parties involved in the inquest to be present on that day for further proceedings. The examination of witnesses and gathering of evidence during the inquest aimed to uncover the circumstances surrounding Mohbad’s death and provide closure to his family, friends, and fans.
As the investigation continues, the stakeholders involved are hopeful that the autopsy results will shed light on the mystery surrounding the musician’s sudden demise. The public is eagerly awaiting the conclusive findings to bring clarity and resolution to this tragic event. In the meantime, the legal process will ensure that justice is served and the truth is revealed in the pursuit of closure for all those affected by Mohbad’s passing.
