The Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) has been relentless in its efforts to combat the Boko Haram terrorist group, with significant success seen across the Lake Chad region. The Chief of Military Public Information, Abubakar Abdullahi, released a statement detailing the victories achieved by the MNJTF in its recent operations.

From 10 to 20 February, all 4 Sectors of MNJTF recorded numerous successes, including the surrender of terrorist elements, offensive operations, and curbing of arms smuggling. The troops have been responsible for the killing of several Boko Haram terrorists, as well as the recovery of dozens of arms and ammunition from the insurgents.

One notable engagement occurred at the locality of Soueram, where the troops killed two Boko Haram terrorists and seized 92 linked ammunition belts. Additionally, two Boko Haram members surrendered to troops in Sectors 2 and 3, stationed in Litri, Chad, and Doron Baga, Nigeria, respectively. The surrender of these insurgents led to the recovery of a collection of arms and ammunition, significantly consisting of an AKM Rifle, an AK-47 Rifle, 3 magazines, and 29 rounds of 7.62-millimetre Special Ammunition.

The MNJTF’s persistence in offensive campaigns brought further victories, with troops of Sector 2 Bagasola, Chad inflicting casualties on Boko Haram elements and recovering “teke-teke” canoes, as well as 155 millimetre High Explosive Shells. The Chadian Air Force also conducted a successful air strike on Boko Haram strongholds along the southern rim of Lake Chad, resulting in the neutralization of several terrorists and the destruction of their equipment on waterways.

In Sector 4 Diffa, Niger Republic, the troops successfully disrupted an arms smuggling attempt, confiscating a substantial arms cache comprising 6 x AK-47 rifles, 11 magazines, and 50 x rounds of 7.62-millimeter ammunition. However, the statement also disclosed that two soldiers, one each from Nigeria and Chad, paid the supreme price while 3 others sustained various degrees of injuries.

The MNJTF, despite the sacrifices, remains devoted to restoring peace and security in the region while fostering the conditions necessary for economic growth and the free movement of people within the Lake Chad basin. The recent achievements underscore the task force’s resolve and effort in confronting the challenges posed by terrorist activities, and it is committed to continuing its comprehensive approach to addressing these threats.

It is evident that the MNJTF’s collaborative efforts and military actions have had a significant impact on undermining the operational capabilities of the Boko Haram terrorist factions in the region. The task force will continue its comprehensive approach, combining military action with collaborative efforts to support affected communities in overcoming the threats to regional stability.

The unwavering dedication and success of the MNJTF in its operations against Boko Haram serve as a testament to its commitment to restoring peace and security in the region and countering the activities of terrorist groups.
