The police in Cross River State, located in Nigeria’s south-south region, paraded a 30-year-old man on Thursday for allegedly attacking his girlfriend with a machete. The incident occurred when the man, identified as Amber Ubung, became enraged after his girlfriend, Blessing Onawu, failed to show up at his house on Valentine’s Day. It was reported that Onawu had promised to spend the night with Ubung but did not keep her word, despite taking N7,000 from him for a hairdressing appointment.

According to reports from the state Commissioner of Police, Gyogon Grimah, the attack took place in Okuni, within the Ikom Local Government Area of Cross River State. Ubung armed himself with a machete and went to Onawu’s residence, where he attacked her with the intent to kill. In the midst of the attack, Onawu’s mother attempted to rescue her daughter but also ended up getting injured by Ubung.

A team of policemen responded to the scene and arrested the suspect with the machete in his possession. Ubung was subsequently transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation. Once the investigation is completed, he will be charged in court for his actions. Both Onawu and her mother are currently receiving treatment in different hospitals.

In addition to this incident, the police paraded nine other suspects for alleged armed robbery and two suspects for alleged murder. The Commissioner of Police, Mr. Grimah, appealed to the public for support in sharing information to help combat crime. He reassured the citizens of Cross River State that the police would continue to work diligently to maintain peace and order, emphasizing the state’s reputation as one of the most peaceful states in the country.

The news agency NAN covered the story, shedding light on the importance of community involvement in fighting crime. The police force in Cross River State remains committed to upholding justice and safety within the region.

As the investigation progresses, the authorities aim to ensure that justice is served for the victims and that the perpetrators face the consequences of their actions. The incident serves as a reminder of the need for vigilance and cooperation among community members to prevent such acts of violence in the future.

In conclusion, the case of the machete attack in Cross River State highlights the severity of domestic disputes and the potential consequences of unchecked anger and violence. By working together as a community and supporting law enforcement efforts, individuals can contribute to a safer and more peaceful society for all.
