The loss of each ophthalmologist to migration, otherwise known as “japa”, costs the Nigerian economy about $150,000 annually, the Ophthalmological Society of Nigeria (OSN) has said, warning that the continued brain drain is worsening the shortage and maldistribution of eye-care specialists across the country.
