Senator Abdulaziz revealed that he, along with other family members, had cared for his brother during his stay in Saudi Arabia. He mentioned that he saw the reports questioning the power transfer around December 2009 and was determined to investigate the matter. After confirming that his brother had indeed written a letter transferring power to Jonathan, he was relieved to set the record straight.
Despite his knowledge of the letter and the power transfer, Senator Abdulaziz mentioned that as a serving military officer at the time, he refrained from speaking to the press about the matter. In a separate development, Senator Abdulaziz was appointed as the new leader of the Northern Senators Forum after Senator Abdul Ningi stepped down from the position following a three-month suspension over budget padding allegations. As a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) representing Katsina Central, Senator Abdulaziz now chairs the forum and will lead discussions and initiatives within the group.
