The Wife of Katsina State Governor, Zulaihat Radda, recently announced her plans to secure foreign scholarships for 50 qualified students from the state. This initiative was revealed during the final of the state’s Inter-Schools Science Practical Quiz, Debate Competition, and Presentation of Awards, organized by the Ash-shifa Social Development, Education, and Health Awareness Initiative, a non-governmental organization.

In her statement, the governor’s wife mentioned that she had already secured and distributed 50 scholarship forms to eligible students across the state. This effort was made in her capacity as the state coordinator of the Renewed Hope Agenda, a pet project of the First Lady, Sen. Remi Tinubu. The selected candidates will be invited to Abuja for an aptitude test, and the winners will receive $7,000 each as a scholarship. Additionally, 500 scholarship forms were obtained and distributed to Katsina indigenes for higher education in Nigerian institutions.

Furthermore, the governor’s wife personally sponsored a student from Katsina who is currently studying in Belarus. She highlighted the administration’s commitment to education by providing scholarships to 41 students studying medicine in Egypt and supporting law graduates attending law school.

The NGO behind the competition was commended by the governor’s wife for its efforts in promoting academic excellence, fostering innovation, collaboration, and nurturing future leaders in the state. The event was seen as a crucial initiative to invest in the next generation and build a brighter future for the state and the nation.

Abdullahi Jibril, the Executive Director of the NGO, emphasized the importance of focusing on science subjects like physics, chemistry, and biology to complement the state government’s education efforts. He expressed concerns about students’ lack of interest in educational activities and highlighted the need to boost their knowledge in science through initiatives like the competition.

The competition served as a platform to identify students’ challenges in practical science and potentially seek interventions from the government. The occasion concluded with the presentation of trophies, cash prizes to winners, and awards to individuals who contributed significantly to the development of education in the state.

Overall, the governor’s wife’s initiative to secure scholarships for students and the NGO’s efforts to promote science education underscore the importance of investing in education and nurturing the next generation of leaders in Katsina State. These initiatives aim to empower students to think critically, develop practical skills, and excel in the modern world through academic excellence and innovation.
