Nigeria: Kano records 32,000 diphtheria cases, 1,800 deaths since 2022 — KNCDC

The Kano State Centre for Disease Control (KNCDC) has disclosed that the state investigated about 39,000 suspected diphtheria cases between December 2022 and August 2026, with about 32,000 cases confirmed positive and 1,800 deaths recorded.

The Director-General of KNCDC, Prof. Muhammad Adamu Abbas, disclosed this while speaking with journalists, attributing the high incidence among children largely to inadequate immunisation, particularly among zero-dose children.
