The Kano State government has recently issued a directive to the Bichi Emirate Council to suspend the turbaning ceremony of Salisu Ado Bayero as a district head in the Emirate. This decision was conveyed in a letter addressed to the secretary of the Bichi Emirate Council and signed by the permanent secretary in the Ministry of Local Government Affairs, Ibrahim Kabara, on behalf of the state’s Deputy Governor, Comrade Aminu Abdulsalam, who oversees the ministry.

The directive to suspend the ceremony was based on “certain exigencies” at the moment, as mentioned in the letter. However, the specifics of these exigencies were not elaborated upon by the state government. The letter referenced a previous communication from the Bichi Emirate Council dated February 2, 2024, regarding the appointment of Salisu Ado Bayero as a traditional title holder/district head in Bichi Emirate. In light of the circumstances, the government instructed the council to halt the scheduled exercise.

The initial letter from the Bichi Emirate Council to Salisu Ado Bayero, who is the younger brother of the Emir of Bichi, Alhaji Aminu Bayero, had informed him of the emir’s approval for his appointment as a district head. The letter had specified that the turbaning ceremony was slated to take place on Friday, March 1, 2024, at the palace. However, with the government’s directive to suspend the exercise, the plans for the ceremony have been put on hold.

The decision to postpone the turbaning ceremony has stirred curiosity among residents and stakeholders in the Bichi Emirate, as the reasons behind the suspension remain undisclosed. The Emir of Bichi and the Bichi Emirate Council are expected to adhere to the government’s directive until further notice.

In the meantime, Salisu Ado Bayero and his family may have to wait for a new date to be set for the turbaning ceremony to proceed as planned. The temporary postponement has caused a temporary halt in the preparations for the event, as well as the excitement surrounding Salisu Ado Bayero’s anticipated installation as a district head in the Emirate.

As the situation unfolds, the Bichi Emirate Council and the state government are likely to provide updates and clarifications on the circumstances leading to the suspension of the turbaning ceremony. Residents and observers are eagerly awaiting further developments in this unfolding saga within the traditional hierarchy of the Bichi Emirate in Kano State.
