The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has refuted the suspension of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano, stating that there were no valid grounds for his suspension. On Tuesday, April 16, a faction of the party led by Major Agbo suspended the governor over alleged anti-party activities. However, Ahmed Ajuji, the acting national chairman of the NNPP, dismissed the suspension as an act of attention-seeking individuals.

According to Ajuji, Governor Yusuf’s suspension was baseless as he did not commit any offense warranting such action. He addressed journalists on Thursday, April 18, reaffirming that the governor remained a bona fide member of the NNPP. The faction led by Major Agbo claimed that the governor failed to appear before a disciplinary committee set up to address the alleged anti-party activities, leading to his suspension.

In response to the suspension, Ajuji referred to those behind it as mere political jesters, attention seekers, and mercenaries. He brushed off their threat as irrelevant, emphasizing that Governor Yusuf’s participation in the NNPP convention was legitimate. Ajuji also accused them of trying to sabotage the governor’s legal battles at the tribunal, court of appeal, and Supreme Court by falsely claiming that the party did not duly nominate him. Fortunately, the Supreme Court validated Governor Yusuf’s membership in the NNPP, debunking their claims.

Meanwhile, stakeholders within the NNPP from the 19 northern states have called for Governor Yusuf’s resignation. Led by Honourable Attahiru Musa and secretary Simeon Pam, the stakeholders passed a vote of no confidence on the governor. They expressed dissatisfaction with the lack of developmental projects and leadership qualities demonstrated by Governor Yusuf in Kano State.

This controversy has sparked debates within the NNPP and raised concerns about the party’s internal dynamics. As the national leadership of the NNPP dismisses Governor Yusuf’s suspension, the party may face further challenges in maintaining unity and cohesion among its members. It remains to be seen how this issue will unfold and whether Governor Yusuf will address the stakeholders’ demands for his resignation.

In conclusion, the NNPP’s stance on Governor Yusuf’s suspension underscores the internal conflicts and power struggles within the party. As the party navigates through these challenges, it must prioritize transparency, accountability, and unity to uphold its principles and values.Governor Abba Yusuf’s suspension by a faction of the NNPP has sparked debates within the party and calls for his resignation from stakeholders in the northern states. The national leadership of the NNPP has refuted the suspension, emphasizing that Governor Yusuf remains a legitimate member of the party. As the controversy unfolds, the NNPP faces internal challenges that may impact its cohesion and unity moving forward.
