During a stakeholders’ meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano, Abdullahi Ganduje, the party’s National Chairman, extended an invitation to Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and others to join the APC. This invitation was conveyed by Ganduje himself, in an attempt to woo Yusuf away from the New Nigeria’s Peoples Party (NNPP). However, in response to this invitation, Governor Yusuf has made it clear that he has no intention of leaving the NNPP to join the APC.

Through his spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, Governor Yusuf stated that Ganduje did not follow the appropriate procedure in making the invitation. He emphasized that Ganduje, being a former governor and former Deputy Governor, should know the right channel to send a message to a sitting Governor.

In a statement reacting to the invitation, Governor Yusuf reiterated his loyalty to the NNPP, highlighting that changing a political party is not as simple as changing a house; it requires certain procedures to be followed. He emphasized that he has no plans to leave the NNPP and join the APC.

Meanwhile, in a separate development, a chieftain of the APC, Dawisu, has expressed hope that Governor Yusuf will arrest its former commissioner and adviser, who threatened to kill judges. This call comes after the Department of State Services (DSS) arrested a Kano-based politician, Abdulmajid Danbilki Kwamanda, over alleged threats to mobilize the masses to begin an uprising and make Kano ungovernable.

It is evident that Governor Yusuf has clarified his position and loyalty to the NNPP, signaling that he will not be swayed by the invitation extended by Ganduje to join the APC. This public response has refuted any speculation concerning Yusuf’s potential defection to the APC and solidified his commitment to the NNPP.
