Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, recently expressed his dismay over the release of political thugs who had been detained for engaging in criminal activities in the state. He described this act as a deliberate sabotage against the state and reiterated his commitment to implementing necessary measures to apprehend those involved in political thuggery in Kano.

During the traditional Sallah homage event known as ‘Hauwa Nassarawa’ at the Government House, Governor Yusuf disclosed to the Emir of Kano, Alh. Aminu Ado Bayero, about the escape of a number of “political thugs” who had been arrested and charged with criminal offenses. He hinted that the opposition political party might have played a role in securing the release of the accused individuals from custody.

Governor Yusuf recounted the challenges his administration faced upon assuming power, with rampant incidents of political thuggery, theft, and violence in the state. He highlighted the efforts made to address these issues, resulting in a significant decrease in thuggery across the metropolitan areas. However, he expressed his disappointment over the resurgence of criminal activities during the Ramadan period, such as the invasion of a mosque in Dorayi.

The Governor emphasized that his government would not tolerate any security threats in Kano and vowed to take strict actions against those responsible for fueling such activities. He also mentioned the establishment of a Judicial Commission of Inquiry to investigate injustices and reclaim unlawfully sold public property, clarifying that the inquiry was not intended for personal vendettas or targeting the opposition party.

Governor Yusuf also shared his administration’s plans for socio-economic and infrastructural development, including the commencement of N24 billion flyover projects in Dan’agundi and Talihudu areas. He reassured the Emir of Kano and the public that his government was dedicated to fostering progress and improving the overall well-being of the citizens.

In his homage message, Emir Aminu Ado Bayero condemned the recent surge in political thuggery and criminal activities, urging security agencies to intensify efforts in curbing such behaviors. He praised the government’s initiatives to alleviate the hardships faced by the people due to the removal of fuel subsidies and acknowledged the distribution of palliatives, empowerment programs, and advancements in education, health, and road infrastructure.

Overall, Governor Yusuf and Emir Bayero underscored the importance of promoting peace, security, and development in Kano, emphasizing the need for collaborative efforts to combat criminal activities and enhance the quality of life for the residents. Their statements reflect a shared commitment to ensuring the well-being and prosperity of the state and its people.
