The Ganduje ward chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Dawakin Tofa Local Government area of Kano State made a significant announcement on Monday regarding the suspension of the party’s national chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje. The decision was disclosed by the party’s legal adviser of the Ganduje ward, Halliru Gwanjo, during a press conference in Kano.
According to Mr. Gwanjo, the suspension of the former Kano governor was initiated at the ward level in response to corruption allegations levied against him by the state government. The suspension, effective from April 15, will remain in place until Mr. Ganduje is cleared of the allegations. The suspension notice was signed by nine executive members of the party at the ward level.
The state government had previously taken legal action against Mr. Ganduje over bribery accusations, with his arraignment scheduled for April 17. In response to the suspension, the chairman of the APC, Kano state Chapter, Abdullahi Abbas, clarified that the State Working Committee had suspended those responsible for Mr. Ganduje’s suspension for a period of six months. Additionally, a special investigation panel was established to verify the various allegations made against them.
Abbas stated, “We at the state level have endorsed the decisions of the Local Government Party leadership and have initiated an investigation into the allegations of anti-party activities against them. We possess evidence of meetings between state government officials and the individuals who suspended the National Chairman. The state working committee has agreed to impose a six-month sanction on them, and they are currently suspended.”
The unfolding situation underscores the internal turmoil within the APC in Kano State and the wider repercussions of corruption allegations on the political landscape. The suspension of a prominent party figure like Abdullahi Ganduje sends a strong message about the party’s commitment to upholding integrity and accountability among its members. The ensuing investigations and legal proceedings will shed further light on the allegations and determine the fate of those involved in the suspension.
Despite the internal challenges, the APC in Kano State remains determined to address any misconduct within its ranks and maintain transparency in its operations. The actions taken by the State Working Committee demonstrate a commitment to holding party members accountable for their actions and ensuring that the principles of good governance are upheld.
As the situation continues to evolve, it is essential for the APC and its members to navigate these challenges with integrity and dedication to upholding the values and ethos of the party. The outcome of the investigations and legal proceedings will undoubtedly have far-reaching implications for the future of the APC in Kano State and beyond.
