Kano Governor Yusuf Rejects Ganduje’s Invitation to Join APC

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano state has made it clear to the national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and immediate past governor of the state, Abdullahi Ganduje, that he has no intention of leaving the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) on whose platform he won the governorship polls. Yusuf’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, affirmed that leaving one’s political party is like leaving a home and moving to another and there are procedures for doing things that Ganduje, being a former governor and deputy governor, should be aware of.

Ganduje had attempted to woo Yusuf to join the APC, along with his godfather Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso and Ibrahim Shekarau of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), stating that the move is in the best interest of Nigerians and the country. He also shared that the APC would begin an e-registration process and aims to have the highest number of members from the state in order to establish a one-party state.

However, Yusuf rejected this invitation, affirming that he has no plans to leave his party and will not leave the party. He emphasized that changing a political party is like changing a house, and there are things to be done before deciding to make such a change.

Yusuf, whose election was confirmed by the Supreme Court earlier, is the only NNPP governor in Nigeria. Despite this, he has stood firm in his decision to remain with the NNPP and not join the APC.

In summary, Governor Yusuf has firmly rejected Ganduje’s invitation to join the APC and has expressed his commitment to maintaining his position within the NNPP.
