Bashir Ahmad, a former aide to the immediate past President Muhammadu Buhari, has announced that he will be meeting with Nyesom Wike, the minister of the Federal Capital Territory, next week. This comes after he called out the minister for some dark spots in the capital city of Abuja, Nigeria.

The former presidential aide claimed that five major districts in Abuja, including Maitama and the Central Business District, lacked adequate lighting, contributing to the growing insecurity in the FCT. Ahmad’s concerns were acknowledged by the former governor of Rivers state and officials of the FCT.

Ahmad listed Wuse, Maitama, Asokoro, Garki, and the Central Business District as the areas in Abuja that needed to be lit, emphasizing that the absence of lighting in these districts has a significant impact on security in the area. Following his tweet about the darkness in Abuja, a senior official of the FCT reached out to Ahmad and scheduled a meeting with the Honorable Minister Nyesom Wike to present and discuss the matter personally.

Nyesom Wike, the FCT minister, has reiterated his commitment to securing Abuja and its environment in light of recent incidents of kidnapping and killings. He assured that he and the area council chairmen are working diligently to address the situation.

The meeting between Bashir Ahmad and Nyesom Wike is a significant step toward addressing the issue of inadequate lighting in several areas of Abuja and the subsequent impact on security. By bringing the matter to the attention of the relevant authorities, Ahmad has sparked action and collaboration to find viable solutions to improve the security and safety of residents in the FCT.
