The Jigawa government has launched a feeding program to provide meals for 171,900 people daily during the month of Ramadan. Governor Umar Namadi announced this initiative at the flag off of distribution of palliatives to residents of Dutse, Jigawa, stating that the state aims to feed a total of 5,157,000 people throughout Ramadan.
To achieve this target, the state has set up two feeding centers in each electoral ward, with each center expected to provide meals for at least 300 people daily. This will result in a total of 171,900 meals served per day across 573 centers in the state.
Governor Namadi emphasized that the feeding program goes beyond serving meals at public centers, as thousands of households have also been included in the initiative. The aim is to support the needy during the fasting period and alleviate hunger in the state.
In addition to the current feeding program, the governor assured the citizens of Jigawa that he will facilitate the distribution of additional palliatives promised by President Bola Tinubu. This is part of the government’s commitment to supporting the people, especially during the challenging times faced by the country.
The state Commissioner for Special Duties, Auwalu Sankara, provided details of the distribution plan, stating that 150,000 bags of 25kg rice, 150,000 bags of 25kg maize, and 100,000 cartons of spaghetti will be distributed to 150,000 households. The state government has made arrangements to reach 700,000 beneficiaries across the 27 Local Government Areas, with an average of five individuals benefiting from each household.
Overall, the feeding program aims to ensure that no one goes hungry during the month of Ramadan in Jigawa, with a focus on supporting the vulnerable and disadvantaged members of the community. The government’s efforts reflect a commitment to providing essential support and assistance to those in need, particularly during times of hardship and economic challenges.
As the state continues to implement various initiatives to address food insecurity and support its citizens, the feeding program stands out as a vital contribution to ensuring that everyone has access to nutritious meals during the holy month of Ramadan. The government’s commitment to the well-being of its people is evident in these efforts, and the distribution of palliatives and food supplies will undoubtedly make a positive impact on the lives of thousands of residents in Jigawa.
