Jigawa State Government recently made headlines as it approved the release of a substantial N270 million empowerment credit facility, with the goal of creating 27 new millionaires within the state. Governor Malam Umar Namadi made the exciting announcement during a speech at the opening ceremony of a week-long training session on business management organized for the 27 prospective millionaires selected by the state government.

Each beneficiary is set to receive a generous sum of N10 million, emphasizing the government’s commitment to fulfilling its campaign promise of creating 150 millionaires before the conclusion of its first tenure. Governor Namadi highlighted the administration’s focus on empowering individuals in the plumbing materials business, with the specific aim of generating wealth and economic opportunities for the local population.

The initiative was born out of a comprehensive assessment of the state’s water supply infrastructure, revealing a significant deficiency in the management of hand pump materials, spare parts, and water treatment chemicals across various regions. In response to this pressing issue, the government initially trained and empowered 287 youth in hand pump repairing, selecting one individual from each political ward.

Building upon this foundation, the state embarked on a project to empower 27 individuals to engage in the sale of spare parts for hand pumps and other plumbing materials at the headquarters of the 27 local government areas. Each of the selected businessmen received a capital injection of no less than N10 million, along with connections to production companies for the supply of materials at competitive prices.

Governor Namadi emphasized the government’s commitment to supporting the newly minted millionaires, directing all local government chairmen to patronize their businesses and engage trained youth for hand pump repair contracts within their respective areas. The success of the initiative was celebrated as a significant milestone, with 27 new millionaires now poised to make a lasting impact on the state’s economic landscape.

In a press conference, Dr. Habibu Ubale, the Executive Secretary of the Jigawa State Directorate for Economic Empowerment, elaborated on the state’s broader efforts in empowering over 48,000 individuals across various sectors and disciplines. From ICT to agricultural activities, males and females alike have benefited from the government’s initiatives aimed at poverty eradication and job creation.

The 27 millionaires selected for the latest empowerment program underwent rigorous scrutiny, with factors such as merit, integrity, and business track record playing a crucial role in the selection process. The interest-free credit facility provided to the beneficiaries is to be repaid over a period of four years, underlining the government’s commitment to sustainable economic development.

Dr. Ubale also highlighted the establishment of monitoring mechanisms to track the progress of the beneficiaries and provide necessary guidance and support where needed. The overarching goal of the project extends beyond wealth creation, encompassing broader objectives such as job creation, poverty eradication, improved water supply, and enhanced public health outcomes.

Overall, the Jigawa State government’s proactive approach to economic empowerment and wealth creation is poised to have a lasting impact on the lives of its citizens, paving the way for a brighter and more prosperous future for the state as a whole.
