Muhammadu Sanusi II, the former Emir of Kano, has criticized Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for accepting the Supreme Court judgment, which he previously contested. He stated that a Muslim was expected to accept anything that befell them at the first instance, not after losing out at all attempts to get what did not belong to them. This comment came after the Supreme Court reversed the sack of Governor Abba Akbir Yusuf of Kano. Sanusi labeled Gawuna’s acceptance of the Supreme Court ruling as too late.

Sanusi, a former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), expressed his disapproval of Gawuna accepting his defeat at the Supreme Court as the will of God. Furthermore, he highlighted that Gawuna’s decision to submit to the Supreme Court ruling after failing at all attempts to secure victory in the election was contradictory to the faith of a Muslim.

Gawuna and the APC lost the legal battle to take over Kano’s governorship seat at the Supreme Court after securing victory at the tribunal and Court of Appeal. In response, Gawuna described the Supreme Court verdict as God’s will.

Sanusi expressed satisfaction with the Supreme Court verdict, emphasizing that the people of Kano state deserved justice due to the democratic nature of the system. He called on the apex court to ensure that the people of Kano state get justice, reiterating that it is the right of the people to elect their leaders and representatives in a democratic system.

Following the Supreme Court’s reversal of his sack by the tribunal and Court of Appeal, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf announced fresh appointments, including for his predecessors, APC national chairman Abdullahi Ganduje and NNPP national leader Rabiu Kwankwaso.

Governor Yusuf made the announcement after the Supreme Court ruling. Throughout this period, Ganduje and Kwankwaso, former political allies, have become political enemies in the state. These developments follow the Supreme Court ruling on the Kano governorship election, which saw the initial sack of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf overturned.
