The Inspector-General of Police, IGP, Kayode Egbetokun, has issued a directive to Commissioners of Police, CPs, and Tactical Commanders to heighten security measures nationwide in preparation for the upcoming Eid-el-Fitr celebration. This directive was communicated by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, in a statement released on Monday in Abuja.

In his directive, the IGP emphasized the need for CPs and their supervisory Assistant Inspectors General of Police (AIGs) to ensure a thorough deployment of officers and resources of the Force. The objective is to cover critical locations, Eid prayer grounds, and recreational centers in order to instill confidence among citizens and fun-seekers.

Senior officers were instructed to conduct comprehensive assessments of areas at risk of security threats, implement stringent stop-and-search procedures, and carry out raids on identified black spots. The aim is to implement proactive measures to maintain peace and ensure public safety throughout the country.

The police personnel deployed were urged to uphold professionalism, remain vigilant, and respect the fundamental rights of citizens while carrying out their duties with decorum and alertness. Additionally, the public was advised to abide by security guidelines, show respect to law enforcement officers stationed at strategic locations for the protection of lives and property.

IGP Egbetokun extended his greetings to the Muslim community as they celebrate the Eid-el-Fitr, marking the end of Ramadan. He encouraged Muslim faithful to embrace the spirit of the occasion while remaining vigilant and reporting any suspicious activities or individuals to the police.

Overall, the directive from the IGP underscores the importance of proactive security measures to ensure a safe and peaceful celebration of the Eid-el-Fitr festival. It highlights the crucial role of law enforcement in maintaining public safety and urges cooperation between the police and the community to enhance security efforts.

In conclusion, the directive serves as a reminder of the collective responsibility to prioritize security and safety during festive periods and underscores the commitment of the Nigerian Police Force to safeguarding the well-being of the citizens.
