Solomon Folorunsho, the Coordinator of the Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp in Edo, is reaching out to the public for support in providing food and essentials for the inhabitants of the camp. He made this appeal during a visit to the camp in Uhogua, Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo, ahead of the Easter Celebration.

Mr. Folorunsho highlighted the urgent need for resources to feed the displaced persons and cover the school fees of their children. Despite the economic challenges, there are individuals who have sacrificed their time and resources to support the camp. However, there is still a pressing need for more assistance.

The coordinator expressed concern over the increasing number of individuals from the host community coming to the camp in search of food. The camp, which houses over three thousand individuals, struggles to provide for everyone, especially children. Despite efforts to limit the number of residents, some cases cannot be overlooked.

Evelyn Omigie, a supervisor at the camp, emphasized the challenges faced by the camp due to a lack of food and other essential items. She appealed to well-meaning Nigerians to donate food supplies as the provision for the children has significantly reduced. The camp relies on whatever food is available to feed the residents, leading to food scarcity and inadequate nutrition.

In addition to food supplies, the camp also requires financial assistance to provide scholarships for the children and support the teachers who have not been paid their salaries. Omigie also highlighted the need for solar-powered boreholes and lights, as well as additional hostels to accommodate the growing number of residents and alleviate overcrowding.

The camp is in urgent need of support from the public to ensure the well-being and future of its inhabitants. Every contribution, no matter how small, can make a significant difference in the lives of those affected by displacement and hardship.

In conclusion, the IDP camp in Edo is facing numerous challenges, primarily related to food scarcity, lack of essential provisions, and financial constraints. The coordinator and supervisors are appealing to individuals and organizations to come forward and support the camp during this critical time. Your generosity and support can help improve the living conditions and prospects of the displaced persons in the camp. Let us join hands and make a difference in the lives of those in need.
