Jigawa State Governor, Umar Namadi, expressed that his state is at the forefront of efforts towards achieving food security in Nigeria by investing significantly in the agricultural sector. He made these remarks during a meeting with a delegation from the Presidency at the Government House Dutse.

The delegation, headed by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, included media aides of President Bola Tinubu and heads of media agencies. Governor Namadi emphasized that Jigawa State has made substantial investments in the production of wheat, hibiscus, sesame, and gum Arabic. These initiatives are vital in Nigeria’s pursuit of food security and economic advancement.

Highlighting the agricultural potential of the state, Governor Namadi mentioned that the federal government had recently launched the National Wheat Development Programme in Jigawa. As part of President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, the government aims to cultivate 100,000 hectares of wheat during the dry season. Jigawa State has allocated 40,000 hectares of land to this program, aligning with the governor’s 12-point agenda.

Governor Namadi was pleased to present the state’s achievements in agriculture and food security in support of President Tinubu’s administration. He mentioned the commissioning of “Fadama Radio,” a farmer’s enlightenment station in Auyo by the Federal Government, as a commitment to agricultural education and empowerment. With abundant agricultural lands and dedicated leadership, Jigawa State is well-positioned to lead Nigeria’s food security endeavors.

Minister Mohammed Idris commended the success of the federal government’s dry season farming initiative in Jigawa during his remarks. He visited Auyo Local Government Area to witness the efforts of rice and wheat growers in contributing to food security. The minister highlighted the importance of food security for national stability, emphasizing that the President’s focus on this area is crucial.

The delegation also confirmed that the federal government’s interventions in agriculture were being effectively implemented in Auyo. They encouraged Nigerians to engage in agriculture and take advantage of government support across the entire value chain for mass food production in the country.

The delegation included heads of media agencies such as the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), and the National Orientation Agency (NOA). Other members included Special Advisers to the President on Media and media aides.

In conclusion, the efforts of Jigawa State in agriculture and food security are commendable as they contribute significantly to Nigeria’s overall goals in this sector. With continued support and investment, the state is poised to play a pivotal role in ensuring food security and economic prosperity for the nation.
