Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has provided insights into his administration’s management of state resources, particularly in terms of the palliative measures initiated by his government and those supported by the Federal Government. In response to recent reports and queries from various groups, Governor Adeleke, through his spokesperson Olawale Rasheed, emphasized the importance of accessing accurate and verifiable information about government programs to avoid misrepresentation.
The Governor highlighted his administration’s commitment to transparency and openness, asserting that detailed information about government plans and initiatives across various sectors is readily available to the public. He encouraged commentators to base their assessments on facts and figures rather than distorting publicly accessible information related to state governance.
Addressing concerns about the distribution of palliatives in Osun State, Governor Adeleke urged civil society groups to conduct thorough field assessments before drawing conclusions. He clarified that a non-governmental committee, led by the Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria and comprised of representatives from diverse non-governmental organizations, oversaw the distribution of rice. The Governor also mentioned multiple ongoing government programs in the state, emphasizing the focus on palliative interventions such as wage awards for pensioners and workers, cooperative loans for artisans and small businesses, free medical services, grants for the underprivileged, and enhancements in the public transport system.
In response to inquiries about the utilization of state allocations, Governor Adeleke reminded the group of the existing governance structures, statutory regulations, and appropriation laws that govern fiscal management. He encouraged them to refer to annual public account reports or the budgetary act for insights into how state funds are allocated and utilized across different sectors and projects. Additionally, he highlighted the state’s initiatives in food security and the reform of the mining sector to address issues of corruption and accountability.
The Governor refuted claims that he added N2 billion to the N100 billion infrastructure fund, clarifying that the state had exceeded the sum in addressing the needs of residents. He emphasized the government’s adherence to legal frameworks and called for a focus on constructive engagement with official channels to obtain accurate information.
In conclusion, Governor Adeleke underscored the importance of governance within legal frameworks and urged stakeholders to engage with the government through established processes to gain a comprehensive understanding of the state’s initiatives and expenditures. By promoting transparency, accountability, and adherence to regulations, the Governor aims to foster inclusive and sustainable development in Osun State.
