President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Reno Omokri, a prominent member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), on his 50th birthday. Omokri, who is known as a former aide to erstwhile Nigerian leader, Goodluck Jonathan, responded to President Tinubu’s congratulatory message via social media on Monday, January 22.

Tinubu saluted Omokri in a statement signed by Ajuri Ngelale, the presidential spokesman, and praised him for “his dutifulness in providing constructive opinions on national issues, regardless of his political disposition.” Omokri, who marks his birthday on Monday, January 22, 2024, was the special assistant on digital media to former President Goodluck Jonathan from 2011 to 2015.

In response, Omokri expressed his gratitude to God for allowing him to reach the age of fifty. He also thanked President Tinubu for applauding him and wished him more years in good health as he continues to contribute to national development. On the occasion, Omokri’s friends and supporters honored him with a three-day wildlife safari in Kenya.

Tinubu’s gestures towards Omokri have raised eyebrows since the former is a leader in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) while Omokri is a prominent member of the PDP. This isn’t the first time that President Tinubu has attracted support from opposition figures, despite his administration being just seven months old. Legit.ng previously reported Legit.ng’s observations, stating Omokri as one of them.

Omokri has a running battle with the ‘Obidients’, a sobriquet for die-hard supporters of Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP). This occurrence shows a subtle dynamic that underscores the political landscape in Nigeria as it evolves.

Overall, President Tinubu’s congratulatory message to Omokri has opened a new chapter in their political relationship and sparks discussions on possible collaborations across party lines. It’s a demonstration of goodwill that transcends political boundaries and paves the way for a more inclusive political environment in Nigeria.
