Richard Idowu, also known as ‘Ade Ori Okin’, a prominent member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State and a candidate for a seat in the House of Representatives, has been murdered. The tragic event occurred at a political gathering on the outskirts of Ejigbo town on Saturday, January 27. Idowu was fatally shot.
The Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has called for an immediate investigation into the matter. The incident has caused great concern and the Commissioner of Police has been instructed to thoroughly investigate and bring the perpetrators to justice. Oluomo Kolapo Alimi, the State’s Information Commissioner, has advised residents to remain calm while assuring them that the incident will be thoroughly investigated.
The police have already arrested one suspect in connection with the killing of the PDP chieftain. In a separate incident, the Nigeria police have also arrested a suspected kidnapper, Bello Mohammed, who is allegedly responsible for the murder of Nabeeha and other victims. Mohammed was apprehended in Kaduna with N2.25 million believed to be ransom money. He has confessed to being part of a gang responsible for the kidnapping and killing of several victims.
Both cases have garnered widespread attention and outcry. The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has ordered further investigations into the matter and commended the efforts of the police in handling these cases.
The tragic murder of Richard Idowu is a loss not only to his family, but also to the political community in Osun State. As the community mourns his passing, there is a collective call for justice.
