Former Nigeria’s Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon, recently commended Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, for his exceptional achievements, visionary leadership, and unwavering commitment to the welfare and progress of the people of Gombe State and Nigeria as a whole. The commendation was given during a courtesy call at the Government House, where Gowon led a delegation of eminent Nigerians including Governor Caleb Muftwang of Plateau State, Former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, and Former Minister of Information, Professor Jerry Gana.
Gowon expressed his admiration for Governor Inuwa Yahaya’s administration, stating that despite not formally meeting him since assuming office in 2019, the visible strides and initiatives undertaken by the Governor have left a lasting impression. He highlighted the positive changes and impacts being made on the lives of the people through various projects and legacy initiatives.
During the visit, Gowon acknowledged the significant transformation happening in Gombe under Governor Inuwa Yahaya’s leadership, commending him for his efforts and urging him to continue the excellent work. He praised the Governor’s genuine care for the welfare and progress of his people and the nation as a whole, expressing pride in the positive transformations taking place in Gombe.
In response, Governor Inuwa Yahaya described the visit as an honor not only to his administration but to the entire people of Gombe State, emphasizing the hospitable nature of the State’s residents. He highlighted the importance of advocating for peace during challenging times in Nigeria and commended General Gowon for his message of unity and faith, reflecting on his support during the Nigerian civil war.
The delegation’s visit to Gombe State was to attend the dedication of a Church in Shongom Local Government built by a community member, Mr. Jerry Damara, for his community of Kulishi. The occasion coincided with Muslims observing the Holy month of Ramadan and some Christians fasting for Lent, emphasizing the need for unity and peace in Nigeria.
