Abdullahi Ganduje, the national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), expressed confidence that the party will emerge victorious in the Edo governorship election scheduled for 21 September, citing the strong candidacy of Monday Okpebholo as a key factor in their anticipated success.
During a presentation ceremony in Abuja where he handed the certificate of return to Mr. Okpebholo, Ganduje emphasized the importance of unity and collaboration among party members and other aspirants to secure a victory in the upcoming election. He highlighted that direct primaries were conducted in 192 wards in the state with detailed records and video evidence, resulting in Mr. Okpebholo emerging as the winner due to his significant votes.
Ganduje urged all aspirants and party members to rally together, emphasizing that Okpebholo was a well-packaged and marketable candidate capable of appealing to the electorate in Edo. He noted that other aspirants had already extended their congratulations to Okpebholo in support of his candidacy.
Nze Duru, the party’s deputy national organizing secretary, commended the APC Edo Governorship Primary Election Committee for overseeing a peaceful, fair, and transparent primary election, which was hailed both nationally and internationally for its integrity.
In his remarks, Mr. Okpebholo called on his fellow aspirants to join forces with him to secure a victory for the APC in the governorship election. Lucky Imasuen, another aspirant who competed for the party’s ticket, lauded the NWC for their hard work and fairness in managing the Edo primary election, assuring that all aspirants would collaborate with Okpebholo to ensure the party’s success at the polls.
Previously, Dennis Idahosa was initially declared the winner of the Edo Governorship Primary Election on 17 February, only for the APC NWC to overturn the decision, leading to a supplementary election. Governor Bassey Otu from Cross River State took over as the committee chairman and declared Okpebholo as the winner with 12,433 votes, surpassing 11 other aspirants in the contest.
Okpebholo, who currently represents Edo Central Senatorial District at the National Assembly, stands as the APC candidate for the upcoming governorship election. With a unified front and a strong candidate, the party aims to secure victory and lead Edo towards progress and development.
In conclusion, the APC remains optimistic about its chances in the Edo governorship election, banking on the capabilities and support of Monday Okpebholo and the collective efforts of party members and aspirants to secure a successful outcome on 21 September.
