The Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, has initiated the distribution of N11.4 billion as part of the second phase of palliative distribution to alleviate the impact of economic hardships on the people. During the flag-off ceremony, Mr. Sani promised to continue implementing policies and programs aimed at reducing poverty and hunger in the state. He assured the public that his administration is committed to providing relief to the poor and vulnerable residents of Kaduna State. Furthermore, he announced plans to launch the third phase of the palliatives program in the coming months, emphasizing that it will encompass a comprehensive approach.

The distribution of 128 trucks of rice and maize worth N3.4 billion to over 200,000 households, approximately 1,000,000 individuals, was kickstarted on the same day. Additionally, the administration has begun disbursing grants to 7,500 micro, small, and medium enterprises, with amounts ranging from N100,000 to N1,000,000 based on the enterprise’s size. A total of N4.2 billion has been allocated for the distribution of cash grants, fertilizers, and farm inputs to vulnerable households, smallholder farmers, enterprises, persons with disabilities, internally displaced persons, orphans, market women, and youths.

To support pensioners, the Governor disclosed that N3.3 billion has been set aside for the payment of pensions, gratuities, and death benefits to the families of deceased civil servants. Moreover, approximately 9,800 impoverished households and over 1,000 individuals with disabilities have already begun receiving N50,000 alerts. A revolving loan scheme worth 500 million naira has been established for civil servants in the state, with some already accessing the funds.

Governor Sani issued a stern warning to individuals contemplating the hijacking or diversion of the palliatives, stating that stringent security measures have been implemented to safeguard the transportation of rice and maize to various locations. Any attempt to interfere with the distribution process will be met with legal action. The Governor’s efforts have been recognized by the Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress in Kaduna, Ayuba Suleiman, who praised the allocation of N500 million for the workers’ revolving loan scheme. Additionally, the released funds for pensioners demonstrate the Governor’s dedication to the welfare of both retired and active civil servants in the state.

In conclusion, the distribution of palliatives and other support measures by the Kaduna State Government under Governor Uba Sani’s leadership signifies a commitment to alleviating the economic challenges faced by the people of Kaduna. The concerted efforts to provide relief to the vulnerable groups and promote economic stability are commendable and reflect the government’s proactive approach in addressing the needs of its citizens.
