Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State has issued a seven-day ultimatum to legal practitioner Oladotun Hassan to retract his allegations of certificate forgery or face a lawsuit. Aiyedatiwa, through his counsel Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa, SAN, also demanded an apology in three national dailies. The letter, dated April 8, was made available to the press in Abuja.
The letter stated that Hassan had authored and submitted an unsolicited complaint to the Nigeria Police Force accusing Aiyedatiwa of misrepresentation, certificate forgery, examination malpractice, and perjury. It was highlighted that Hassan is neither a registered voter in nor an indigene of Ondo State, giving him no standing to make such allegations. The petition was allegedly routed through unauthorized sources within the police force, and a report was submitted to Hassan dated February 19, 2024, without Aiyedatiwa’s knowledge.
Aiyedatiwa accused Hassan of maliciously circulating the report with the intention of disqualifying him from the governorship primary election in Ondo State. Furthermore, Hassan allegedly wrote another letter accusing Aiyedatiwa of conspiring with DIG Sylvester Alabi to compromise police integrity instead of addressing the forgery allegations. Adegboruwa claimed that Hassan’s actions were aimed at preventing Aiyedatiwa from participating in the APC primary election in April and the November governorship election in the state.
In response, Adegboruwa outlined seven demands, including adequate compensation for the false and libelous publications, that Hassan must fulfill within seven days of receiving the letter, or face criminal charges.
The ongoing feud between Aiyedatiwa and Hassan has led to a vicious campaign of calumny against the governor, tarnishing his reputation and causing public ridicule without just cause. Aiyedatiwa is determined to defend his integrity and seek redress for the false allegations made against him.
As the deadline approaches, tensions are high, and the outcome remains uncertain. Aiyedatiwa’s legal team is prepared to take all necessary steps to protect his reputation and ensure that justice is served. The spotlight is now on Hassan as he weighs his options and decides how to respond to the ultimatum issued by the Governor of Ondo State.
In conclusion, the battle between Aiyedatiwa and Hassan reflects the high stakes involved in politics and the lengths to which individuals may go to gain an advantage. It serves as a reminder of the importance of integrity, accountability, and ethical conduct in public office. Only time will tell how this conflict will be resolved and what impact it will have on the future political landscape of Ondo State.
