The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Abdullahi Ganduje, made a statement indicating his willingness to embrace Rabiu Kwankwaso, the potential 2023 presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party, NNPP, if he decides to join the ruling party. Ganduje asserted his authority by emphasizing that all APC membership card holders are subordinates and followers of the national leader, demonstrating the hierarchical structure within the party.
During an address to APC supporters in Kano, Ganduje emphasized the significance of joining the APC and highlighted the importance of having something to offer. He described himself as a prominent figure in every state he visits, symbolizing his authority and influence. Ganduje also made a direct appeal to the NNPP to encourage its members to join the APC, using the analogy of preserving perishable fruits in a fridge to prevent spoilage.
Furthermore, Ganduje acknowledged the title of “Jagora” given to Kwankwaso by members of the Kwankwasiyya group and indicated that once Kwankwaso joins the APC, he would essentially be under Ganduje’s guidance and leadership, as he would be considered Kwankwaso’s “grandfather.”
There have been reports of efforts by President Bola Tinubu to reconcile the relationship between Ganduje and Kwankwaso, as part of a larger strategy leading up to the 2023 presidential election. The potential reconciliation could be a strategic move to foster unity within the party and strengthen their position ahead of the upcoming election.
Overall, Ganduje’s statement regarding Kwankwaso’s potential defection to the APC, and the ensuing political dynamics, reflects the complex and evolving landscape of Nigerian politics as various leaders and parties strategize and position themselves for the upcoming election.
