Abdullahi Ganduje, the national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has expressed the determination to ensure the existence of political decorum in Kano state and Nigeria. In a bid to promote peace and unity in the country, Ganduje has extended an olive branch to top opposition leaders in Kano, including Rabiu Kwankwaso, Ibrahim Shekarau, and Abba Kabir Yusuf, urging them to join the ruling party in nation-building.
The APC leader specifically emphasized his intention to reconcile with Kwankwaso, marking a significant step towards ending their political feud. According to a statement by Ganduje’s senior special assistant on public enlightenment, Oliver Okpala, Ganduje is committed to fostering a united and cohesive Nigeria. This move is seen as a demonstration of mature politics, especially amid speculation around President Bola Tinubu’s efforts to reconcile Ganduje and Kwankwaso in the context of the 2023 presidential election.
Ganduje’s decision to bridge the divide with Kwankwaso, who left the APC to join the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) before moving to the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) ahead of the next elections, has been hailed as a positive step towards promoting political harmony. The gesture has been lauded as a call for politicians to work together as Nigerians and view each other as brothers and sisters. Notably, Ganduje has reminded Kwankwaso that joining the APC would automatically elevate him to a leadership role within the party.
The move has sparked a range of reactions from Nigerians, with some expressing skepticism and others endorsing the gesture as a step in the right direction. As the political landscape in Kano continues to evolve, these reconciliatory efforts are anticipated to have a significant impact on the region’s political dynamics.
Ganduje’s stated commitment to end politics of bitterness and promote a united front aligns with the broader efforts to foster a peaceful and inclusive political environment. As he takes proactive steps towards reconciliation, Ganduje’s mature approach to politics is expected to contribute to the overall stability and unity in Kano and Nigeria.
