Former governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Ganduje, has asserted that he remains the national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) despite the attempt to suspend him by his ward executives. This declaration comes after Justice A. M Liman of the Federal High Court in Kano halted Ganduje’s suspension and prohibited the implementation of decisions made at the executive meeting of the APC held at Ganduje Ward in Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area on April 15, 2024.
The court’s ruling was in response to a motion ex parte filed by Ganduje seeking the enforcement of his fundamental right to fair hearing. Justice Liman directed all parties to maintain the status quo before the purported emergency meeting of the alleged executive members of the APC ward. Ganduje expressed gratitude to the party executive members and ward officials from Ganduje Ward for standing by him and rejecting the supposed plot to oust him from the party’s leadership and membership.
Ganduje attributed the suspension attempt to Governor Abba Yusuf of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), whom he accused of trying to weaken the APC in Kano State ahead of the 2027 general election and other electoral contests. According to Ganduje, the NNPP government in Kano is targeting the APC in an effort to undermine the party and hinder its progress.
He criticized the current administration for its alleged failures in the first year of office, including the destruction of the economy of Kano State, increased political violence, and a decline in political ethics. Ganduje emphasized the importance of maintaining unity within the APC and resisting attempts to disrupt the party’s leadership and objectives.
The developments in Kano State reflect a political struggle between the ruling APC and the opposition NNPP, with Ganduje at the center of the controversy. The court’s intervention has temporarily halted the suspension of Ganduje and prevented any immediate actions against him by the ward executives.
As the national chairman of the APC, Ganduje faces challenges and opposition from rival parties seeking to weaken his influence and control within the party. However, he remains determined to assert his position and defend the interests of the APC in Kano State.
Overall, the legal battle over Ganduje’s suspension highlights the dynamic and competitive nature of Nigerian politics, where power struggles and disputes often shape the trajectory of political parties and their leadership. Ganduje’s resilience in the face of adversity demonstrates his commitment to the APC and his determination to overcome challenges posed by external forces.
