Dr. Darlington Orji, the Special Adviser to Governor Siminalayi Fubara on Political Affairs and Strategy, defended his principal against accusations of lacking vision and direction from the Rivers APC Chairman, Chief Tony Okocha. Okocha had criticized Fubara’s administration for being “visionless” and spending state funds frivolously, alleging that the governor was not building on the achievements of his predecessor, Gov. Nyesom Wike.
Orji refuted these claims by highlighting Fubara’s focus on promoting civil servants, ensuring timely payment of workers and pensioners, and spearheading infrastructure development projects like road and bridge constructions in Eleme and Bori. He emphasized the governor’s commitment to fulfilling his election promises and addressing the needs of the people through projects like the rehabilitation of the Psychiatric Hospital, reopening of employment projects at Ignatius Aguru University, and more.
He pointed out that Fubara’s administration continued projects initiated by previous governors, demonstrating a commitment to governance continuity and development. Orji also highlighted the positive reception Fubara had received from the people, who appreciated his efforts to improve their lives and rewrite the political history of the state.
Similarly, Commissioner for Information and Communications, Warisenibo Joe Johnson, dismissed Okocha’s criticisms, asserting that Fubara’s leadership was transforming the state and completing projects initiated by his predecessors in record time. Johnson listed several completed projects, including schools, roads, hospitals, and other infrastructure developments that showcased Fubara’s commitment to progress and service delivery.
He also highlighted new initiatives by Fubara’s administration, such as the Port Harcourt Dual Carriage Ring Road, small business funds, promotions for civil servants, scholarships for students, and improvements in healthcare services. Johnson emphasized Fubara’s dedication to improving the lives of Rivers people and his proactive approach to governance.
Furthermore, Johnson informed Okocha about the governor’s contributions to the community, such as procuring fire-fighting trucks for the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN). He urged Okocha to recognize Fubara’s positive impact on the state and the overwhelming support he had garnered from the majority of Rivers people who acknowledged his transformative leadership.
In conclusion, both Orji and Johnson defended Governor Fubara’s administration, highlighting his achievements, commitment to development, and dedication to serving the people of Rivers State. They emphasized the positive impact of Fubara’s leadership and urged critics to acknowledge and appreciate the progress and initiatives undertaken by the governor for the benefit of the state and its residents.
